St. Joseph

St. Joseph is the foster father of Jesus and spouse of Mary. He is the patron of the universal church, unborn children, fathers, immigrants, workers, carpenters and several countries.

After marrying Mary, Joseph found out she was pregnant, being a just man who didn’t want to shame her publicly he decided to quietly divorce her. An angel appeared to Joseph and informed him that Mary carried the son of God and was conceived by the Holy Spirit.

After Jesus’ birth another angel appeared to Joseph instructing him, Mary and Jesus to flee Bethlehem and go to Egypt for King Herod had plans of slaughtering all young children in the hopes he would kill the child Jesus.

The Gospels describe Joseph as being a carpenter and having taught Jesus this skill.

The details of Josephs death are not known but it is assumed he passed before Jesus began his public ministry.
